Meet Mrs. LeMahieu
The 2011-2012 school year marks my fourth full school year teaching the wonderful children of Cherokee School. Once again, I am thrilled to work with Cherokee students, teachers, and families as we create a school community that fosters student growth, discovery, creativity, and character.
A life-long Chicagoan, I grew up in Oak Brook, IL and have always loved to sing, dance, and act. As a third grader, I decided I wanted to be a music teacher. The idea stuck. An alumna of Northwestern University's School of Music, I majored in Music Education with specializations in voice, general music education, and choral music education. I am also certified in Orff-Schulwerk, having completed the three-summer training at VanderCook College of Music in Chicago. This past summer, I finished my master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction at Concordia University. Prior to teaching at Cherokee, I taught music to children ages 5-12 at the Suzuki-Orff School of Music in Chicago. I am also a certified Music Together early childhood music teacher and have taught Music Together classes in the western suburbs since 2005. During the last three summers, I have had the privilege of working with the Academy at Citadel Theatre in Lake Forest, co-music directing the musicals "Seussical Jr." "Alice in Wonderland," and "w00t!" featuring several Cherokee students and alums!
This fall, my husband and I welcomed our daughter, Caroline, into the world! We are so grateful for the blessing of being her parents!
