First Grade Curriculum
Recent Learnings: During the months of January through March, first grade students will continue to build upon their ability to read, create, and notate rhythms using quarter notes (ta's), eighth notes (ti-ti's), and quarter rests (rests). Students will also learn how to notate simple two-note melodies using the notes “so” and “mi” on a modified musical staff. Additionally, students will continue to work on internalizing the steady pulse in their movements and using percussion instruments. Finally, first graders will add the note “la” to their repertoire of notes they can identify, read, and sing in tune by matching pitches and intervals!
Favorite Song Lyrics:
Teddy Bear Traditional
Teddy bear, teddy bear, turn around.
Teddy bear, teddy bear, touch the ground.
Teddy bear, teddy bear, show your shoes.
Teddy bear, teddy bear, that will do.
Teddy bear, teddy bear, climb the stairs.
Teddy bear, teddy bear, say your prayers.
Teddy bear, teddy bear, turn out the light.
Teddy bear, teddy bear, say goodnight!
