Fourth Grade Curriculum
Recent Learnings: In the months of January through March, fourth grade students will begin learning proper recorder playing technique, and they will practice playing the notes B, A, and G with good tone. After mastering good technique, they will put their musical reading skills into practice as they will be challenged to read rhythms and melodies on the treble staff. In addition, students will be performing more complex instrumental pieces using mallet percussion to accompany their singing. They will be responsible for maintaining their own part while other parts are playing simultaneously, building their independent musicianship skills.
Favorite Song Lyrics:
Shake the Papaya Down Jamaican Folk
Mama says no play. This is a work day.
Up with the bright sun, get all the work done.
If you will help me, climb up the tall tree.
Shake the papaya down.
The Star-Spangled Banner Key/Smith
O say can you see, by the dawn’s early light,
What so proudly we hail’d at the twilight’s last gleaming,
Whose broad stripes and bright stars through the perilous fight
O’er the ramparts we watch’d were so gallantly streaming?
And the rocket’s red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there,
O say does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave?
I Want to Rise Traditional
I want to rise in the early morn,
I want to rise in the early morn,
I want to rise in the early morn,
And I'll never sleep late any more.
